Salicylic acid promotes growth and affects cadmium accumulation of Cyphomandra betacea seedlings

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that within a certain range of concentrations, salicylic acid promotes the biomass, photosynthetic parameters, and antioxidant enzyme activity of Cyphomandra betacea seedlings under cadmium stress. However, the cadmium accumulation in the seedlings was influenced differently by the salicylic acid concentration, showing a trend of initially decreasing and then increasing.

Cadmium Contamination, Bioavailability, Uptake Mechanism and Remediation Strategies in Soil-Plant-Environment System: A Critical Review

Umair Riaz et al.

Summary: Cadmium contamination poses significant threats to both the environment and human health due to its toxicity and carcinogenicity. Various remediation techniques, such as phytoremediation and in-situ immobilization with amendments, have been successful in reducing cadmium bioavailability and can be cost-effective strategies for sustainable agriculture production in contaminated soils.

Salicylic acid reduces cadmium (Cd) accumulation in rice (Oryza sativa L.) by regulating root cell wall composition via nitric oxide signaling

Jiuyue Pan et al.

Summary: The study found that salicylic acid can alleviate growth inhibition of rice seedlings under cadmium stress, reduce Cd accumulation in roots and shoots, and alter the distribution of Cd in the root cell wall. Additionally, salicylic acid promotes the synthesis of pectin and lignin, effectively preventing Cd from entering root cells.

Cadmium removal from diluted wastewater by using high-phosphorus-culture modified microalgae

Zhixin Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that living algae cultured in high-phosphorus medium can efficiently immobilize Cd2+ from diluted wastewater solution. Different phosphorus concentrations affected the production and adsorption performances of Cd2+ in the algae, with microalgae showing sensitivity to low concentrations of the heavy metal. Varying phosphorus concentrations regulated the surface phosphorus loading of microalgae, enhancing its adsorption ability of Cd2+ through the formation of Cd-phosphate mineral.

Green copper oxide nanoparticles for lead, nickel, and cadmium removal from contaminated water

Alaa El Din Mahmoud et al.

Summary: Environmentally friendly copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were successfully synthesized using a green synthesis route, and showed excellent adsorption capacity for heavy metal ions in wastewater. The CuO NPs exhibited maximum uptake capacity for Pb(II), followed by Ni(II) and Cd(II), with the adsorption equilibrium occurring within 60 minutes.
