Variation in plant carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus contents across the drylands of China

Junlan Xiong et al.

Summary: The study found that in drylands, plants tend to accumulate nitrogen rather than carbon and phosphorus, with this process being influenced by aridity and soil pH.

Seasonal Variation Characteristics of C, N, and P Stoichiometry and Water Use Efficiency of Messerschmidia sibirica and Its Relationship With Soil Nutrients

Tian Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seasonal dynamics of C, N, and P stoichiometry and water use efficiency (WUE) of Messerschmidia sibirica and soil in the Yellow River Delta. The results showed that the stoichiometric characteristics and WUE varied among organs and seasons. The study also revealed the correlations between stoichiometric characteristics, WUE, and soil factors. This study provides insights into the adaptive mechanism of plant nutrient and water use, with implications for vegetation protection and restoration.

Foliar, root and rhizospheric soil C:N:P stoichiometries of overstory and understory species in subtropical plantations

Lijuan Shi et al.

Summary: The study found significant differences in the C:N:P stoichiometry among plant species and forest types, mainly constrained by rhizosphere soil. The C:N ratio in leaves and roots showed positive and negative correlations with that in rhizosphere soil, while the N:P ratio showed opposite relationships.

C:N:P stoichiometry in terrestrial ecosystems in China

Jiahui Zhang et al.

Summary: Ecological stoichiometry is an efficient tool for exploring the balance and cycling of coupled elements. C:N:P ratios are essential in ecological models of productivity or C cycling. This study comprehensively calculated C:N:P ratios from organs to ecosystems in 66 typical natural ecosystems in China using the community biomass-weighted mean (CWM), showing significant differences among ecosystem types and biomes. Environmental conditions explain a substantial portion of the spatial variation of C:N:P ratios from organs to ecosystems.

Seasonal Variations in Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Stoichiometry of a Robinia pseudoacacia Plantation on the Loess Hilly Region, China

Congguo Dong et al.

Summary: Seasonal variations of C, N, and P contents and ratios were explored in a Robinia pseudoacacia plantation on the Loess Plateau in China. The study found that the C:N:P stoichiometry of plants was more sensitive to seasonal changes than litter and soil, while competition for N and P existed between trees and understory herbs, impacting the effective use of environmental resources in the ecosystem. This research provides valuable information for vegetation restoration and plantation management on the Loess Plateau and contributes to global stoichiometric analyses.

Patterns of nitrogen and phosphorus stoichiometry among leaf, stem and root of desert plants and responses to climate and soil factors in Xinjiang, China

Yan Luo et al.

Summary: Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) play essential roles in plant growth in desert ecosystems. This study found that soil factors have direct influences on N and P stoichiometry among different organs, and climate factors have an indirect effect on N and P stoichiometry by affecting soil factors. These findings can help understand nutrient stoichiometry patterns and utilization strategy of N and P in response to global climate changes in desert ecosystems.

Response of different organs' stoichiometry of Phragmites australis to soil salinity in arid marshes, China

Jian Zhang et al.

Summary: Soil salinization significantly affects the C:N:P stoichiometry of Phragmites australis, leading to higher nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in leaves and roots, but a higher N:P ratio in leaves. Under high soil salinity conditions, N and P concentrations in leaves and C concentration in stems decrease, while C:P and N:P ratios in leaves and C:P ratio in stems increase.

C:N:P stoichiometric characteristics and seasonal dynamics of leaf-root-litter-soil in plantations on the loess plateau

Ruosha Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the stoichiometric characteristics and seasonal dynamics of C, N, and P along the leaf-root-litter-soil continuum in plantation ecosystems on the Loess Plateau. The results showed that plants on the plateau were mainly regulated by N in litter-soil-root-leaf and by P in leaf-litter-root, with N absorption mainly from soil and P absorption mainly from litter. Plantations were limited by N in spring and summer and by P in autumn, which can provide guidance for plantation restoration and management.

Effect of Environmental Stress on the Nutrient Stoichiometry of the Clonal Plant Phragmites australis in Inland Riparian Wetlands of Northwest China

Yi Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that Phragmites australis can adapt to different environments by changing its nutrient allocation strategies, investing more nitrogen and phosphorus in underground modules, and increasing the efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus utilization in leaves and stems. Additionally, significant anisotropic growth relationships were observed in the stoichiometry of the whole plant and each module in different habitats.

Tian Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the water, salt, and stoichiometry characteristics of different halophytes and soil systems in the Yellow River Delta. Results showed differences in the water sources and nutrient utilization among the plants, along with varying correlation patterns between plants and soil layers. Summary: The compilation of technology lists addressing climate change is important for promoting technological research and development, demonstration, and popularization. China needs to strengthen ecological civilization construction to achieve carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality goals. The study proposed existing classification outlines and methodologies and found that key industries have mature mitigation technologies. Technology needs are concentrated in traditional upgrading, renewable energy, and decision-making support. Key technologies are in 3 major areas and 12 technological directions that need breakthroughs. Carbon depth reduction and geoengineering technology play important roles in achieving global emissions structure and carbon neutrality.
