Multi-locus genome-wide association studies (ML-GWAS) reveal novel genomic regions associated with seedling and adult plant stage leaf rust resistance in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

V. K. Vikas et al.

Summary: Quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) and candidate genes associated with leaf rust resistance were identified through multilocus genome-wide association studies (ML-GWAS) in wheat. These findings are important for enhancing leaf rust resistance and developing resistant varieties in wheat breeding programs.

Genetic analysis of a potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) breeding collection for southern Colombia using Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) markers

Jhon A. Berdugo-Cely et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the genetic parameters of a potato genetic breeding collection in Colombia, identifying higher diversity levels in tetraploid genotypes and higher levels of linkage disequilibrium in diploid genotypes. Some genotypes with unique characteristics and potential use in breeding programs were selected based on the analysis results, contributing to the development of potato breeding programs in Narino Department, southern Colombia.

Pathway-based analysis of anthocyanin diversity in diploid potato

Maria Angelica Parra-Galindo et al.

Summary: New candidate genes associated with anthocyanin content in potatoes were identified, shedding light on key components of the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway. Additionally, a genomic region on chromosome 10 was found to play an important role in anthocyanin content in potatoes. Furthermore, pathways genetically correlated to anthocyanin biosynthesis in potatoes include methionine metabolism and the production of sugars and hydroxycinnamic acids.

Genome-wide association studies

Emil Uffelmann et al.

Summary: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) involve testing hundreds of thousands of genetic variants to identify those associated with specific traits or diseases, with the number of associated variants expected to increase as sample sizes grow. The results of GWAS have various applications, including understanding the underlying biology of phenotypes, estimating heritability, predicting clinical risks, guiding drug development programs, and inferring causal relationships between risk factors and health outcomes.
