Antioxidative response and photosynthetic regulatory mechanisms in common fig leaves after short-term chilling stress

Selma Mlinaric et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of short-term chilling stress on antioxidative response and PSII photochemistry in developing leaves of two common fig varieties. Results showed that both varieties did not exhibit membrane lipid damage due to efficient antioxidative activity. However, there were differences in the regulation of main photosynthetic parameters between the two varieties, suggesting differential responses to chilling stress.

Phosphorolytic degradation of leaf starch via plastidic α-glucan phosphorylase leads to optimized plant growth and water use efficiency over the diel phases of Crassulacean acid metabolism

Nathalie Ceusters et al.

Summary: The findings suggest that phosphorolytic starch degradation is critical for efficient operation of the CAM cycle and optimizing water use efficiency. Disruption of this pathway can lead to reduced growth and limited response to changes in light periods.

Global Warming, Climate Change, and Environmental Pollution: Recipe for a Multifactorial Stress Combination Disaster

Sara Zandalinas et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that an increase in different co-occurring multifactorial stress factors can result in a severe decline in plant growth and survival, as well as a decrease in microbiome biodiversity. This should serve as a warning for society to take action to reduce pollutants, combat global warming, and increase crop tolerance to multifactorial stress combinations.

Acclimation potential of Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) plant to temperature stress is mediated through photosynthetic electron transport rate

Ramwant Gupta et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the temperature stress response of the Noni plant using chlorophyll a fluorescence OJIP transients. Results showed a decline in photosynthetic pigment pool and reduced functional and structural integrity of the photosynthetic apparatus under very low- and high-temperature treatments. Lower yield parameters and electron transport from PSII were observed at contrasting temperatures.
