Dietary Fiber Ameliorates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Intestinal Barrier Function Damage in Piglets by Modulation of Intestinal Microbiome

Xiao Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, dietary fiber was found to improve intestinal morphology and barrier function, inhibit inflammatory pathways, upregulate barrier-related genes, and alter intestinal microbiota composition and SCFA production, ultimately alleviating inflammation in piglets with LPS-induced intestinal injury. The results suggest that adding DF to the diet can improve intestinal health, growth performance, and alleviate weaning stress in piglets.

Leaky Gut: Effect of Dietary Fiber and Fats on Microbiome and Intestinal Barrier

Haruki Usuda et al.

Summary: The intestinal tract acts as a barrier preventing harmful molecules from invading mucosal tissue, with intestinal permeability serving as an index for intestinal barrier integrity. Increased intestinal permeability is associated with various diseases, and chronic increase leads to 'leaky gut,' observed in patients and animal models. Nutrients play a key role in influencing intestinal permeability and the microbiome for a better understanding of leaky gut and its potential mechanisms.

Hye-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing was used to evaluate the changes in the gut microbiota of mice fed with diet supplemented with raw or cooked beef loin powder. The results showed that both raw and cooked beef loin powder increased the relative abundance of Clostridiales in the gut of mice. Additionally, the cooked beef loin powder showed enrichment of genes for glycan biosynthesis leading to short-chain fatty acid synthesis, correlated to a high abundance of Bacteroides. Overall, both raw and cooked beef loin powder changed the gut microbiota of mice significantly.
