Immune and antioxidant responses of pearl oyster Pinctada axima exposed to acute salinity stress

Haijun Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of acute salinity stress on the immune and antioxidant responses of Pinctada maxima. The results showed that immune enzymes and antioxidant enzymes and substances in P. maxima were significantly affected by different salinity gradients and duration of salinity stress. P. maxima exhibited a stronger tolerance to high salinity than low salinity.

Antibiotic-induced gut dysbiosis and barrier disruption and the potential protective strategies

Hui Duan et al.

Summary: Oral antibiotic therapies can cause gut dysbiosis and barrier disruption, resulting in a decrease in diversity and an increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antibiotic-induced changes weaken the gut barrier by affecting mucin, cytokine, and antimicrobial peptide production. Dietary interventions and fecal microbiota transplantation can alleviate antibiotic-induced gut dysbiosis and barrier injuries.

Analysis of microbial community and the characterization of Aspergillus flavus in Liuyang Douchi during fermentation

Yi Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed the fluctuation characteristics of microbial diversity during the fermentation of Liuyang Douchi, with Staphylococcus and Petromyces being the dominant bacteria and fungi, respectively. Additionally, four non-aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus strains were isolated from Liuyang Douchi for the first time, displaying high cellulase and protease activities.

Deciphering the Shifts in Microbial Community Diversity From Material Pretreatment to Saccharification Process of Fuyu-Flavor Baijiu

Jiamu Kang et al.

Summary: This study focused on the changes in microbial community diversity during the production of fuyu-flavor baijiu, revealing the predominance of specific bacterial and fungal genera during the pretreatment and saccharification stages. Through various methods, multiple microbial genera were isolated, and the potential for controlling microbial community structure was demonstrated through the analysis of microbial functional profiles.

Host habitat is the major determinant of the gut microbiome of fish

Pil Soo Kim et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterized gut bacterial communities in fish, revealing that the dominant phyla were Proteobacteria and Firmicutes. The gut microbiota in fish was more strongly influenced by host habitat than by host taxonomy or trophic level.
