Real-Time PCR Assays for the Specific Identification of Probiotic StrainsLactobacillus gasseriBNR17 andLactobacillus reuteriLRC (NCIMB 30242)

Hanan R. Shehata et al.

Summary: The rapid growth in the probiotic market is attributed to the wide range of health benefits associated with probiotics, which can be strain-specific. Strain-level identification is crucial for maintaining probiotic efficacy. PCR-based methods specific to Lactobacillus gasseri BNR17 and Lactobacillus reuteri LRC strains were successfully developed and validated for specificity, sensitivity, and precision in this study.

Enumeration of Probiotic Strain Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103) Using Viability Real-time PCR

Hanan R. Shehata et al.

Summary: Probiotic health benefits are strain-specific and dose-dependent, so it is essential to administer the correct strains at recommended doses for optimal results. Traditional plate count methods for probiotic enumeration are time-consuming, laborious, and non-specific. The developed real-time PCR method using PMAxx as a viability dye offers faster and more accurate enumeration, particularly for Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG.
