In search of autophagy biomarkers in breast cancer: Receptor status and drug agnostic transcriptional changes during autophagy flux in cell lines

Francesca Mascia et al.

Summary: Autophagy plays a crucial role in drug resistance and drug-induced cytotoxicity in cancer cells. Targeting this autophagy process could significantly enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy. However, measuring autophagy levels in a clinical setting has been challenging, hindering the discovery of specific inhibitors or activators. In this study, drug-induced autophagy was investigated in breast cancer cell lines with different receptor status. The analysis of differentially expressed genes identified a common autophagy signature that is independent of cell and drug type. These genes were also found to be associated with breast cancer prognosis outcomes. This gene signature represents potential biomarkers for monitoring the autophagy process in preclinical and clinical studies.

Role of IL-6 in the commitment of T cell subsets

Thomas Korn et al.

Summary: IL-6 plays a critical role in the differentiation and maintenance of Th17 cells and T follicular helper cells, as well as in the induction of Treg cells. Its absence can impair adaptive immune responses to fungi and extracellular bacteria, while its presence is necessary for homeostasis in the gut lamina propria.
