Effect of telling older adults their predictive physical fitness age on physical activity: A quasi-experimental study

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether informing older people of their predictive physical fitness age would increase their physical activity levels. The results showed that for older adults with low physical fitness, informing them of their predictive physical fitness age significantly improved their physical activity levels and physical fitness age. However, for older adults with normal or high physical fitness, this intervention did not have a significant effect.

Role for Physical Fitness in the Association between Age and Cognitive Function in Older Adults: A Mediation Analysis of the SABE Colombia Study

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between physical fitness and cognitive status, finding that older adults with lower handgrip strength and slower gait speed were more likely to have cognitive impairments. Additionally, age was negatively associated with cognitive function. The study also revealed that gait speed and handgrip strength were independent mediators of the detrimental effects of aging on cognitive function.

Summary: In this study, poor muscle function, rather than reduced lean muscle mass, was found to be associated with late-life cognitive impairment, including incident Alzheimer's dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and cognitive decline. Further research is needed to identify muscle structure features that may enhance the specificity of sarcopenia in identifying older adults at risk for late-life cognitive impairment.

The Beneficial Effects of Cognitive Walking Program on Improving Cognitive Function and Physical Fitness in Older Adults

Summary: The study found that cognitive walking program has positive effects on improving cognitive function and physical fitness in older adults, especially those who are physically active. Cognitive function improved over time in all three groups, especially in the CWPAG group. There was no clear difference observed between the CWPSG and NWSG groups. Improvements in all fitness measures were also seen in all three groups.
