Updated World Health Organization Air Quality Guidelines Highlight the Importance of Non-anthropogenic PM2.5

Sidhant J. Pai et al.

Summary: The recent update by the World Health Organization indicates that over 90% of the global population is exposed to PM2.5 concentrations that exceed their guidelines. Even under extreme abatement scenarios, more than half of the world's population will still experience PM2.5 exposures above the recommended level. A speciated aerosol exposure guideline is suggested for region-specific air quality management decisions and health-burden estimates.

Particulate Matter and Cardiovascular Risk in Adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Stacey E. Alexeeff et al.

Summary: The study found that long-term exposure to fine particulate matter is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality among adults with COPD, especially in low exposure scenarios. The results suggest that current regulations may not be sufficient in protecting individuals with COPD from the negative effects of air pollution.
