Enhancing bioenergy production with carbon capture of microalgae by ultraviolet spectrum conversion via graphene oxide quantum dots

Libin Yang et al.

Summary: The addition of graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) to microalgae growth media significantly improves photosynthetic activity, leading to increased carbon fixation and bioenergy accumulation. GOQDs enhance energy transfer in photosystem II and upregulate lipid biosynthesis metabolites to increase biomass and lipid content. This approach shows promise for improving microalgae photosynthetic efficiency and enhancing carbon capture and bioenergy production under high solar ultraviolet irradiation.

State-of-the-art process simulations and techno-economic assessments of ionic liquid-based biogas upgrading techniques: Challenges and prospects

Junaid Haider et al.

Summary: Biogas, as a renewable fuel, requires purification and upgrading due to trace contaminants and high CO2 content. Chemical absorption is commonly used, but issues such as solvent decomposition, toxicological impact, high maintenance costs, and corrosivity limit its large-scale application. Ionic liquids have emerged as alternative solvents with advantages in CO2 uptake, thermal stability, and negligible vapor pressure. This review provides the first comprehensive comparison of biogas upgrading technologies, highlighting the potential of ILs for practical, technical, and economic viability.
