Joint ambient noise autocorrelation and receiver function analysis of the Moho

Stefan Mroczek et al.

Summary: In the field of seismic interferometry, cross-correlations are used to extract Green's function from ambient noise data. By applying a single station variation of the method, using autocorrelations, zero-offset reflections can be retrieved in a stratified Earth. However, the results targeting Moho signals with ambient noise autocorrelations can be ambiguous and require additional analysis with receiver functions to confirm the findings. The combination of autocorrelations and receiver functions allows for independent estimates of crustal parameters such as P and S velocities, as well as Moho depth.

Joint Seismic and Gravity Data Inversion to Image Intra-Crustal Structures: The Ivrea Geophysical Body Along the Val Sesia Profile (Piedmont, Italy)

Matteo Scarponi et al.

Summary: Through a joint inversion of new seismic and recently compiled gravity data, the study constrained the structure of a prominent geophysical anomaly in the European Alps, the Ivrea Geophysical Body (IGB), and revealed that the IGB protrudes at shallow depths in the western part of the profile and deepens steeply towards the east in the middle of the profile.
