Whole-genome resequencing of large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) reveals the population structure and signatures of environmental adaptation

Tetsuo Kon et al.

Summary: Through whole-genome resequencing, it was found that large yellow croaker populations exhibit genomic adaptations to different living environments, with genetic population structure reflecting the environment and each effective population size declining over generations.

Resource Status and Effect of Long-Term Stock Enhancement of Large Yellow Croaker in China

Jigui Yuan et al.

Summary: The large yellow croaker, once the most abundant marine fish in China, saw a severe decline in its wild population in the 1970s due to overexploitation. Since 2000, hatchery release has been carried out to enhance the stock. Genetic analysis revealed no genetic differentiation in the entire wild population, allowing for flexibility in mixing farmed and wild populations. However, the study highlighted the potential negative effects of releasing farmed juveniles into the wild, including domestication and increased genetic loads.
