Screening and Risk Evaluation of Organic Contaminants in an Urban Wetland Fed with Wastewater Effluents

Jorge Meza-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Wastewater release in an urban wetland in Mexico City introduces a complex mixture of chemical substances into the aquatic system. Through GC-MS screening and Toxic Unit analysis, industrial and domestic pollutants were identified as major concerns, while agricultural chemicals were not a significant issue. Specific substances were found to have considerable adverse effects on the aquatic ecosystem.

Adsorption-regeneration process for removing dimethoate and recovering phosphorus with three-dimensional hierarchically porous carbon

Shuibing Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel process to efficiently recover phosphorus from dimethoate-containing wastewater using three-dimensional hierarchically porous carbon material. The process demonstrates high adsorption capacity and conversion efficiency of dimethoate to phosphate, which remains stable after multiple cycles. The study also reveals that co-existing substances have little competition with dimethoate.

Summary: This study demonstrated that cyanobacteria Nostoc muscorum showed efficient accumulation and degradation of organophosphorus pesticide PY compared to Ana-baena laxa. PY inhibited cell growth, reduced chlorophyll a content and photosynthesis related enzymes activities in both species, but the effects were less pronounced in N. muscorum.

Effects of tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) on survival, growth, histological changes and gene expressions in juvenile yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco

Yixin Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure to TCEP had negative impacts on the survival rate, body weight, and specific growth rate of juvenile yellow catfish, as well as causing damage to gill structures. Gene transcription analysis revealed effects on antioxidant capacity, ion transport, and immune response, suggesting new insights into the toxic effects of TCEP on fish.

Partitioning and transformation of organic and inorganic phosphorus among dissolved, colloidal and particulate phases in a hypereutrophic freshwater estuary

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: Phosphorus loadings to the Great Lakes have been regulated for decades, but recent reports show re-eutrophication and seasonal hypoxia are increasing. Understanding the fate and cycling of different P species along the river-lake continuum is crucial. Results from the Fox River-Green Bay system reveal dynamic changes in P speciation and sources along the aquatic continuum.

Linjun Zhou et al.

Summary: Among the in silico tools evaluated, except for Read Across and Trent Analysis, other tools showed higher accuracy in predicting acute toxicity of Daphnia and Fish. The predictive ability for NCs was lower than that for PCCs, with ECOSAR performing the best among all the tools tested.

Molecular insights into water-extractable organic phosphorus from lake sediment and its environmental implications

Zhaokui Ni et al.

Summary: WEOP in sediment consists of a large number of molecular formulas predominantly composed of compounds with one to two phosphorus atoms. The diversity of WEOP sources is mainly influenced by factors such as anthropogenic activities and water-extractable organic matter composition. The bioavailable nature of WEOP is attributed to its composition largely made of easily biodegradable compounds with H/C ratio greater than 1.5.

Evaluation of hepatotoxicity induced by 2-ethylhexyldiphenyl phosphate based on transcriptomics and its potential metabolism pathway in human hepatocytes

Lingfei Zhu et al.

Summary: This study found that EHDPP, an organophosphorus flame retardant, exhibits high toxicity in cells by disrupting energy balance, inducing endoplasmic reticulum stress, apoptosis, cell cycle abnormalities, and inflammation response. The toxic effects are mainly mediated through glycolysis and endoplasmic reticulum stress pathways. Additionally, EHDPP shows slow detoxification in cells with a low metabolic rate, leading to sustained toxicity.

Simultaneous electrochemical degradation of organophosphorus pesticides and recovery of phosphorus: Synergistic effect of anodic oxidation and cathodic precipitation

Yanan Ning et al.

Summary: An electrochemical system was developed for the degradation of organophosphorus pesticide acephate and simultaneous recovery of phosphorus, with increased efficiency at higher current density. Factors such as solution pH, Mg²⁺, bicarbonate, and Cl⁻ all have an impact on phosphorus recovery efficiency.
