Use of artificial intelligence for optimizing biosorption of textile wastewater using agricultural waste

K. Aghilesh et al.

Summary: Most textile dyes in wastewaters are toxic and non-biodegradable, making it crucial to remove them using agricultural waste. This study used Response Surface Methodology, Artificial Neural Network, and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System to determine the optimal conditions for removing Methylene Blue dye using sugarcane bagasse and peanut hulls as low-cost agricultural waste. The models accurately predicted biosorption with R-2-value above 0.9, and the maximum dye removal was achieved at specific conditions for each biosorbent.

Remediation of Arsenic by Metal/ Metal Oxide Based Nanocomposites/ Nanohybrids: Contamination Scenario in Groundwater, Practical Challenges, and Future Perspectives

Ajay Kumar et al.

Summary: Arsenic is a global concern as a groundwater contaminant with severe health consequences, leading to increased attention on the use of nano adsorbents for its removal in both ex-situ and in-situ modes over the past 25 years. Nanotechnology-based water treatment systems are seen as a logical choice in terms of resources and energy efficiency. Many cases in the literature have demonstrated the use of various nanoadsorbents for arsenic removal, with efforts to classify them based on structure and stability, evaluate removal mechanisms, and explore potential field-scale applications. The review also proposes a methodology for calculating the production cost of nanoadsorbents at a laboratory scale.

Summary: A environmentally friendly nanocomposite for Methyl Orange removal was successfully fabricated by functionalizing natural clay, showing exceptional adsorption capabilities. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized using various techniques, and different kinetic and thermodynamic models of the adsorption process were investigated. The optimal parameters for maximum dye adsorption capacity were determined using response surface methodology.
