Usage of heavy metal-free compounds in surface coatings

However, certain raw materials, such as lead and chromium compounds, have been found to be harmful to human health and the environment. Developed countries have banned the use of lead in coatings, but it is still used in developing countries due to economic reasons. The Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint aims to phase out the production and sale of lead-containing paints by 2020. This article provides an overview of the history of coatings, the impact of heavy metals, and options for safer coating compositions.

Adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) by magnetic activated carbon and its mechanism

Adjusting the pH of the solution could enhance adsorption capacity, but competitive adsorption occurred in the presence of high-valent ions. Adsorption mechanisms included electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, and co-precipitation. The MAC material showed potential for heavy metal ion removal from aqueous solutions.

Mixed biosorbent of agro waste and bacterial biomass for the separation of Pb(II) ions from water system
