Carolina de Araujo Gusmao et al.

Summary: Catalysts based on SiO2-supported TiO2 doped with Ag, S, and ZnO@S were prepared and evaluated for their photoactivity in degrading acetaminophen. Ag-doped catalyst showed the best performance under visible light, while ZnO@S-doped sample exhibited the highest degradation rate under UV light. The stability of the catalyst under different light conditions was confirmed, and the degradation of acetaminophen followed Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics with a specific reaction rate under visible light.

Production of hydrogen from gas-phase ethanol dehydrogenation over iron-grafted mesoporous Pt/TiO2 photocatalysts

Patricia Garcia-Munoz et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic activity of iron-grafted mesoporous Pt/TiO2 catalysts for hydrogen production from water-ethanol mixtures was investigated. Results showed that Fe is primarily located on the catalyst surfaces as Fe2O3 and does not dope the TiO2 structure. The catalyst with the lowest iron content exhibited the highest activity for ethanol dehydrogenation, attributed to the higher surface dispersion of Fe and efficient formation of a surface heterojunction between Fe2O3 and TiO2 that favors charge separation.

Engineering Schottky-like and heterojunction materials for enhanced photocatalysis performance - a review

Priyanka Kumari et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis with nanostructured semiconductors is widely used for environmental remediation, but issues like fast recombination of charge carriers and poor redox abilities of the carriers need to be addressed. Metal/semiconductor and semiconductor/semiconductor interfaces have been engineered to create Schottky-like and heterojunction materials, which suppress charge carrier recombination and enhance catalytic performance. This review compares the fundamentals, structures, configurations, and charge transfer pathways of these materials and correlates their physicochemical properties with the degradation of dyes and organic pollutants in wastewater. The review also discusses the challenges and future perspectives for improving the design and properties of Schottky-like and heterojunction structures.
