Non-thermal Plasma Activated Water for Increasing Germination and Plant Growth of Lactuca sativa L

Ha An Quoc Than et al.

Summary: Non-thermal plasma, particularly plasma-activated water, has been shown to have positive impacts on seed germination and seedling growth in lettuce. The study found that moderate treatment times of 10-20 minutes led to increased germination potential and improved growth parameters, while longer treatment times may have adverse effects. PAW treatments significantly increased chlorophyll content and induced morphological changes in lettuce seeds, enhancing water and nutrient uptake.

Inactivation effects of plasma-activated water on Fusarium graminearum

Jian Guo et al.

Summary: The usage of fungicides is potentially harmful to the environment and organisms, prompting researchers to explore alternatives such as Plasma-activated water (PAW) for inactivating phytopathogens. The study found that PAW significantly inhibited spore activity and reduced symptoms caused by Fusarium graminearum, inducing changes in cell wall sculpturing, membrane permeability, and mitochondrial function. This suggests the potential of PAW as a fungicidal agent or supplement to traditional fungicides.

Comparison of the Effect of Plasma-Activated Water and Artificially Prepared Plasma-Activated Water on Wheat Grain Properties

Jana Jiresova et al.

Summary: Recently, the use of low-temperature plasmas and plasma-activated water (PAW) in biological research has gained much attention. This article reviews the composition and properties of PAW prepared by different methods, and finds no significant difference between PAW prepared by plasma treatment and that prepared by mixing the active ingredients. The research also shows that PAW promotes germination and growth of wheat grains, and effectively decontaminates bacteria and yeast.

Effect of Reactive Chemical Species on the Degradation of Deoxynivalenol, 3-Acetyldeoxynivalenol, and 15-Acetyldeoxynivalenol in Low-Temperature Plasmas

Haiqin Fang et al.

Summary: Deoxynivalenol (DON) and its derivatives are common toxins in food and feedstuff, causing serious health risks to humans and animals. A study found that low-temperature plasma treatment is an effective and environmentally friendly method for degrading DON, 3-AcDON, and 15-AcDON. The treatment process involves the production of singlet oxygen, oxygen free radicals, NO2-, NO3-, and H2O2, which contribute to the degradation of these toxins.

Optimization of process parameters to generate plasma activated water and study of physicochemical properties of plasma activated solutions at optimum condition

Vikas Rathore et al.

Summary: Plasma-activated water (PAW) has a wide range of potential applications, including as a disinfectant, pesticide, food preservative, cancer cell treatment, and fertilizer, depending on its reactivity and electrical conductivity (EC). This study investigated the effects of process parameters on the reactivity and EC of PAW, optimizing these parameters and exploring the impact of the physicochemical properties of PAW and plasma-activated solution (PAS) on its effectiveness. The results showed that factors such as air flow rate, plasma treatment time, water volume, and discharge power significantly influence the reactivity and EC of PAW, while the pH and EC of the original solution have less impact on the reactivity of PAS. Additionally, changes in physicochemical properties and the concentration of certain ions in PAW were observed over time.
