Global Daytime Variability of Clouds From DSCOVR/EPIC Observations

A. Delgado-Bonal et al.

Summary: This study utilizes the EPIC camera aboard the DSCOVR to reveal the global daytime cloud fraction variations, finding that the fraction of liquid clouds reaches its maximum around noon. After comparing results with previous studies, a better understanding of the impact on the Earth's energy balance can be achieved.

Cloud-Precipitation Hybrid Regimes and Their Projection onto IMERG Precipitation Data

Daeho Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, a classification of daytime cloud-precipitation co-occurrence and covariability was provided using a k-means clustering algorithm, revealing detailed features of coincident daytime cloud and precipitation systems. The realization that precipitation features associated with high and optically thick clouds have distinct patterns enables hybrid cluster prediction solely on the basis of precipitation information. By extending the concept of cloud regimes to include precipitation information, the study derived cloud-precipitation hybrid regimes and examined their characteristics.

Classifying Planetary Cloudiness with an Updated Set of MODIS Cloud Regimes

Nayeong Cho et al.

Summary: This paper presents an updated global cloud regime dataset based on MODIS satellite data, derived from both pixel-level and Level-3 data. The dataset consists of 11 clusters with nearly identical centroids, and provides detailed physical interpretations and climatological characteristics of the cloud regimes, as well as initial insights into the relationship between MODIS cloud regimes and clouds observed by ISCCP.

Evaluation of Clouds, Radiation, and Precipitation in CMIP6 Models Using Global Weather States Derived from ISCCP-H Cloud Property Data

George Tselioudis et al.

Summary: The analysis of CMIP6 models against ISCCP-H weather states shows improvements in simulating the frequency and geographical distribution of weather states compared to CMIP5 models, but biases still exist, especially in the frequency of shallow cumulus clouds and certain weather states.
