A Survey on Vision Transformer

Kai Han et al.

Summary: Transformer, a deep neural network with a self-attention mechanism, has been initially used in natural language processing and is now gaining attention in computer vision tasks. Transformer-based models perform as well as or even better than convolutional and recurrent neural networks in various visual benchmarks. This paper reviews vision transformer models, categorizes them based on different tasks, and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages. The discussed categories include backbone network, high/mid-level vision, low-level vision, and video processing. Efficient methods for applying transformer in real device-based applications are also explored. The challenges and further research directions for vision transformers are discussed as well.

Automatic recognition of pavement cracks from combined GPR B-scan and C-scan images using multiscale feature fusion deep neural networks

Zhen Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a YOLOv3 model with four-scale detection layers (FDL) to detect cracks in GPR images. Results show that the YOLOv3-FDL model achieves higher F1 score and mAP on the GPR dataset, indicating improved detection performance compared to the YOLOv3 model.

Automatic pixel-level detection of vertical cracks in asphalt pavement based on GPR investigation and improved mask R-CNN

Zhen Liu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a mask region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) that can automatically detect and segment small cracks in asphalt pavement at the pixel level. Through simulation and field detection, the crack features in GPR images of asphalt pavement and the relationship between crack width and area in GPR images were determined. The results achieved high precision and accuracy in detecting and characterizing internal vertical cracks in asphalt pavement.

A Fast Inference Vision Transformer for Automatic Pavement Image Classification and Its Visual Interpretation Method

Yihan Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel asphalt pavement image classification method called LeViT based on Transformer architecture. LeViT outperforms state-of-the-art deep learning models in terms of classification accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. It has fewer parameters and faster inference speed compared to other methods. In addition, a visualization method is introduced to enhance the interpretability of the model.
