Effect of Specular High-Level Clouds on Scattered Solar Radiation Fluxes at the Zenith

I. D. Bryukhanov et al.

Summary: This experiment described the technique and results of studying the effect of high-level clouds on scattered solar radiation flux. The optical and geometric characteristics of clouds were determined based on lidar data, showing that specular HLCs significantly decrease the scattered solar radiation flux compared to clouds with chaotic particle orientation.

Analysis of wind-speed profiles and optical turbulence above Gaomeigu and the Tibetan Plateau using ERA5 data

Yajuan Han et al.

Summary: This study used ERA5 data to investigate the wind-speed distributions and optical turbulence characteristics above Gaomeigu and the Tibetan Plateau, evaluating the reliability of meteorological parameters and analyzing vertical wind speed distributions and seasonal behavior. The study also calculated the Richardson number in the free atmosphere to compare atmospheric stability at the two sites, providing insights into the relative probability of optical turbulence development. The results underscore the importance of choosing an appropriate outer-scale model for revealing local turbulence characteristics.

An Assessment of ERA5 Reanalysis for Antarctic Near-Surface Air Temperature

Jiangping Zhu et al.

Summary: The performance of ERA5 in Antarctica shows strong linear relationship with observed data, effectively representing the temperature changes in the region. Despite some bias, ERA5 can play an important role as a useful tool to explore climate change in Antarctica.

Analysis of wind-speed profiles and optical turbulence above Gaomeigu and the Tibetan Plateau using ERAS data

Yajuan Han et al.

Summary: Appropriate knowledge of wind-speed distributions and optical turbulence is crucial for ground-based telescopes and adaptive optics systems. ERA5 data shows good reliability in meteorological parameters, with wind speed basically lower than 2m/s. Gaomeigu has higher atmospheric stability than Lhasa station, especially in June.
