Optimization of triphenylamine-based polyimide structure towards molecular sensors for selective detection of heavy/transition metal ions

Irina Butnaru et al.

Summary: A series of triphenylamine-based polyimides with a stiff core or flexible/kinking linkages were developed as chemosensors for detecting heavy/transition metal ions. The structural characterization and property investigations showed that these polymers have high thermal stability and optical behavior depending on the chemical structure and environment. The DFT simulation identified charge transfer states responsible for the fluorescence signature of the polymers in different solvents. The electroactivity of the polymers, endowed by the triphenylamine and imide units, was utilized to detect metal ions through UV-vis absorption, fluorescence, and electrochemistry. The modulation of the chelating ability of the biPyA receptor through macromolecular design enabled high sensitivity towards specific metal ions.

Enhancing the Efficiency of Coal Bed Methane Recovery by Injecting Carbon Dioxide Based on an Anthracite Coal Macromolecular Model and Simulation Methods

Zhen Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the efficiency of coal bed methane recovery using carbon dioxide injection and its impact on greenhouse gas emissions. Various spectroscopy techniques and molecular simulations were used to analyze the adsorption and displacement of CH4 by CO2. The results show that CO2 is more easily adsorbed than CH4 and has a higher displacement efficiency at certain conditions. These findings contribute to a better understanding of CO2-enhanced coal bed methane recovery and geological CO2 sequestration.

E(3)-equivariant graph neural networks for data-efficient and accurate interatomic potentials

Simon Batzner et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an E(3)-equivariant deep learning method for accelerating molecular dynamics simulations. The method shows state-of-the-art accuracy and remarkable sample efficiency in faithfully describing the dynamics of complex systems. The Neural Equivariant Interatomic Potentials (NequIP) approach employs E(3)-equivariant convolutions to interact with geometric tensors, resulting in a more information-rich and faithful representation of atomic environments. NequIP outperforms existing models with significantly fewer training data, challenging the commonly held belief about the necessity of massive training sets for deep neural networks.
