Chemical recycling of polyethylene in oxygen-enriched supercritical CO2

I. Elmanovich et al.

Summary: The thermal oxidation of polyethylene was studied in oxygen-enriched supercritical CO2 and pure oxygen environments, showing that the oxygen content strongly affects the product characteristics. The volatile products were analyzed using various techniques, revealing that supercritical CO2 has a more pronounced influence at lower oxygen to polymer mass ratios.

A review of bioaccumulation of volatile methylsiloxanes in aquatic ecosystems

Fabio Bernardo et al.

Summary: <br>This paper investigates the bioaccumulation and biomagnification potential of volatile methylsiloxanes (VMSs) in food webs. Due to limited published information, the toxicological effects of VMSs on aquatic biota and human ecology are not well understood. The results show conflicting findings regarding the bioaccumulation of VMSs in food webs, with some studies suggesting bioaccumulation and biomagnification potential, while others suggesting trophic dilution.

Full Circle Recycling of Polysiloxanes via Room-Temperature Fluoride-Catalyzed Depolymerization to Repolymerizable Cyclics

Buddhima Rupasinghe et al.

Summary: Siloxane-based polymeric materials are widely used worldwide for their stability, but their high energy cost and lack of simple recycling methods are issues. The authors have developed a room-temperature depolymerization technique using low catalytic amounts of fluoride in organic solvents, showing potential for large-scale industrial processing.

Composite Material Recycling Technology-State-of-the-Art and Sustainable Development for the 2020s

Andrey E. Krauklis et al.

Summary: The recent events, such as the ban on composite landfilling in Germany, decommissioning of composite wind turbines, acceleration of aircraft decommissioning, and increase of composites in mass production cars have significantly increased the pressure for developing sustainable composite recycling solutions. The authors of the study propose that identifying optimal recycling methods for various types of fiber reinforced composites is crucial for the future. The manuscript provides a comprehensive overview of recycling technologies for fiber reinforced composites at both low and high Technology Readiness Levels, aiming to guide the sustainable development of the industry and benefit the society.
