Hybrid nanocellulose/carbon nanotube/natural rubber nanocomposites with a continuous three-dimensional conductive network

Hossein Kazemi et al.

Summary: In this study, the hybrid effect of nanocellulose/carbon nanotube (NCC/CNT) reinforcement on natural rubber (NR) nanocomposites was investigated. It was found that the presence of NCC improved the dispersion of the hybrid filler, while the presence of CNT increased the interaction between the filler and the matrix. The use of a NCC/CNT hybrid system resulted in superior mechanical properties, dynamic mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity compared to using each material separately.

SiO2 and ZnO hybrid nanofillers modified natural rubber latex: Excellent mechanical and antibacterial properties

Wenjie Mou et al.

Summary: Modifying polymers with nanoparticles has been proven to be effective in improving polymer performance. In this study, silica and zinc oxide hybrid nanofillers were prepared using self-made dispersion equipment to modify natural rubber latex (NRL). The results show that uniformly dispersed nano-SiO2 fillers enhance the tensile properties of NRL, while uniformly dispersed nano-ZnO fillers exhibit excellent antibacterial properties.

Nature of Carbon Black Reinforcement of Rubber: Perspective on the Original Polymer Nanocomposite

Christopher G. Robertson et al.

Summary: The addition of carbon black particles to elastomeric polymers is crucial for the successful industrial use of rubber in many applications, but the origin of stiffness enhancement in elastomers from incorporating nanometer-scale carbon black particles is still debated. Experimental findings suggest that heat treatment of carbon black can significantly reduce the filler reinforcement effect in rubber. Furthermore, various chemical modification approaches have been employed to improve polymer-filler interactions and reinforcement.

Superhydrophobic Carbon Nanotube-Metal Rubber Composites for Emulsion Separation

Zhiying Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, a superhydrophobic material with a three-dimensional network frame protection was successfully constructed using metal rubber (MR) as the substrate and filling multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) into the pores of MR through poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) anchoring. The separation mechanism of superhydrophobic MR for emulsions was investigated, and the separation efficiency was predicted by analyzing the depth retention effect. The results demonstrated excellent purification capability and mechanical stability of the prepared superhydrophobic MR for water-in-lubricating oil emulsions.

Phlogopite-Reinforced Natural Rubber (NR)/Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer Rubber (EPDM) Composites with Aminosilane Compatibilizer

Sung-Hun Lee et al.

Summary: Rubber compounding with two or more components, such as the addition of phlogopite mineral filler and the compatibilization of AEAPS and SA, has been shown to improve the properties of NR/EPDM blends. The NR/EPDM/phlogopite composite exhibited enhanced mechanical, curing, elastic, and morphological properties compared to NR/EPDM/silica, but showed slightly lower abrasion resistance than NR/EPDM/carbon black. This rubber composite has the potential to replace expensive fillers in various applications.
