Statistical inference for association studies using electronic health records: handling both selection bias and outcome misclassification

Lauren J. Beesley et al.

Summary: This paper develops new strategies for handling disease status misclassification and selection bias in EHR-based association studies. It proposes several methods for addressing misclassification and selection biases and provides software for implementation.

What Can Genetic Relatedness Tell Us About Risk Factors for Tuberculosis Transmission?

Sarah Leavitt et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between risk factors and genetic relatedness in tuberculosis transmission. By simulating a TB-like outbreak and modifying the genetic links, the study improves the accuracy of using genetic relatedness as a proxy for transmission. The findings suggest that pairs with closer proximity, shorter time between observations, and shared ethnicity, social risk factors, drug resistance, or genotypes are more likely to be transmission links.

Population-Based Geospatial and Molecular Epidemiologic Study of Tuberculosis Transmission Dynamics, Botswana, 2012-2016

Nicola M. Zetola et al.

Summary: Tuberculosis elimination requires interrupting the transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The study in Botswana found that factors associated with localized TB transmission events included residing in high TB burden areas, being under 24 years old, current smoking, and unemployment. Patients with known HIV-positive status had lower odds of being involved in localized transmission events.
