Trans-Spinal Direct Current Stimulation for Managing Primary Orthostatic Tremor

Jean-Charles Lamy et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that trans-spinal direct current stimulation (tsDCS) can improve instability in patients with primary orthostatic tremor (POT). Cathodal-tsDCS reduced tremor amplitude and frequency, and lowered corticospinal excitability, while anodal-tsDCS reduced tremor frequency only. This findings suggest a potential novel treatment option for POT using multiple sessions of spinal DC stimulation.

Summary: Since 1967, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) technology has evolved significantly, with the introduction of the 10 kHz SCS system that selectively activates inhibitory interneurons in the dorsal horn. This high-frequency stimulation pattern has demonstrated significant pain control superiority in patients with chronic back pain and neuropathic pain.
