Role of Diurnal Cycle in the Maritime Continent Barrier Effect on MJO Propagation in an AGCM

R. S. Ajayamohan et al.

Summary: The impact of diurnal convection variability in the Maritime Continent (MC) on the propagation of the MJO was studied using an atmospheric general circulation model. Results showed that increasing diurnal flux in the MC led to a decrease in precipitation and zonal wind variance over the western Pacific region. It was also found that stochastic diurnal forcing had a stronger blocking effect on MJO propagation compared to deterministic forcing.
