Gait biomechanics phenotypes among total knee arthroplasty candidates by machine learning cluster analysis

Kathryn L. Young-Shand et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify phenotypic clusters among TKA candidates based on demographic and knee mechanic features during gait and compare gait changes between clusters postoperatively. Four TKA candidate phenotypes were identified, predominantly separated by sex and knee joint biomechanics. Post-TKA knee kinematics and kinetics improvements were cluster-specific, with lower functioning clusters experiencing more improvement.

Leveraging explainable machine learning to identify gait biomechanical parameters associated with anterior cruciate ligament injury

Christos Kokkotis et al.

Summary: This paper presents a machine learning methodology that uses biomechanical parameters to identify ACL injury and investigate differences in kinematics and kinetics between ACL deficient, reconstructed, and healthy individuals during gait. The proposed methodology achieves high accuracy using support vector machines as the best performing model. Furthermore, an explainability analysis reveals the contribution of neglected features in ACL injury diagnosis.

Mechanical Factors Contributing to Altered Knee Extension Moment during Gait after ACL Reconstruction: A Longitudinal Analysis

Chandramouli Krishnan et al.

Summary: The study found that both knee flexion angle and peak vertical ground reaction force contribute positively to altered knee extension moments during gait, but the contribution of knee flexion angle is much greater than that of vertical ground reaction force.
