Concurrent validity and reliability of a functional electromechanical dynamometer to assess isometric mid-thigh pull performance

Andres Baena-Raya et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the concurrent validity and reliability of a functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD) to assess the isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP) kinetic variables. The results show that the FEMD is an acceptable alternative to assess athlete's maximal force production, but the data collected with FEMD and force plates should not be used interchangeably.

Reliability and validity of the multi-point method and the 2-point method's variations of estimating the one-repetition maximum for deadlift and back squat exercises

Onat Cetin et al.

Summary: This study examined the reliability and validity of the multi-point method and variations of the two-point method in estimating 1RM in deadlift and squat exercises. Both methods showed reliable results, with different load variations demonstrating different levels of validity. The multi-point method and two-point method variations with higher loads were found to be more accurate in estimating 1RM.

Muscle Quality and Functional and Conventional Ratios of Trunk Strength in Young Healthy Subjects: A Pilot Study

Waleska Reyes-Ferrada et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the trunk strength ratio normalized by body weight and muscle mass and compared the conventional and functional ratios collected in different conditions. The results showed that trunk extensors were stronger than flexors and had higher muscle quality at high velocities. The functional ratios behaved differently at different velocities, highlighting the need for further research in different populations.

Assessment of Back-Squat Performance at Submaximal Loads: Is the Reliability Affected by the Variable, Exercise Technique, or Repetition Criterion?

Alejandro Perez-Castilla et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the reliability of different performance variables during Smith machine back-squat exercise variants. It found that peak power showed lower reliability compared to mean velocity, mean power, and peak velocity. The study suggests that remaining variables, exercise techniques, and repetition criteria can be used interchangeably due to their acceptable and comparable reliability.

Test-Retest Reliability of Functional Electromechanical Dynamometer on Five Sit-to-Stand Measures in Healthy Young Adults

Daniel Jerez-Mayorga et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD) is reliable for measuring the average and peak strength and velocity values during the five Sit-to-Stand tests in healthy young adults. Reliability was found to be high for both strength and velocity measurements across different loads, indicating the utility of FEMD in assessing lower limb function.
