Relationship Between Risk of Hyper-Low-density Lipoprotein Cholesterolemia and Evacuation After the Great East Japan Earthquake

Hiroaki Satoh et al.

Summary: This study found that prolonged evacuation after the Fukushima nuclear disaster is a risk factor for the new onset of hyper-LDL cholesterolemia, leading to an increase in cardiovascular disease. It is important to follow up with evacuees and recommend necessary lifestyle changes.

Dietary diversity score and cardio-metabolic risk factors: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis

Mostafa Qorbani et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the association between dietary diversity score (DDS) and cardio-metabolic risk factors such as obesity and overweight, lipid profile, blood pressure, metabolic syndrome (MetS), and diabetes. The findings showed no significant association between DDS and most cardio-metabolic risk factors, except for triglycerides (TG). More high-quality studies are needed to confirm these findings and develop new and valid DDS standard tools.

Earthquake Exposure and PTSD Symptoms Among Disaster-Exposed Adolescents: A Moderated Mediation Model of Sleep Problems and Resilience

Shuo Wang et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between earthquake exposure, sleep problems, and resilience in relation to PTSD symptoms. It found that sleep problems partially mediated the relationship between earthquake exposure and PTSD symptoms, and this mediating process was moderated by resilience. Adolescents with lower levels of resilience showed stronger associations between earthquake exposure, sleep problems, and PTSD symptoms. Sleep-targeted and resilience-based interventions may be effective in mitigating PTSD symptoms following a traumatic event like an earthquake.

Risk factors of post-traumatic stress disorder 10 years after Wenchuan earthquake: a population-based case-control study

Bingqing Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that survivors in the hard-hit areas of Wenchuan earthquake still suffered from severe mental trauma even 10 years after the event. Low income, chronic diseases, and death of immediate families in the earthquake were significantly associated with long-term PTSD symptoms. Interventions by local governments and health institutions targeting these risk factors are needed to promote the health of survivors.
