Nocturnal survival of isoprene linked to formation of upper tropospheric organic aerosol

Paul Palmer et al.

Summary: Isoprene, emitted mainly by terrestrial vegetation, is the dominant volatile organic compound in Earth's atmosphere. It plays important roles in determining the oxidizing capacity of the troposphere and the formation of organic aerosol. Daytime and nighttime infrared satellite observations reveal differences in the distribution and intensity of isoprene hotspots, and nighttime observations show unexpected hotspots over tropical regions.

Climate change impact on major crop yield and water footprint under CMIP6 climate projections in repeated drought and flood areas in Thailand

Noppol Arunrat et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of climate change on major crop yields and water footprints in Thailand. Results showed that future climate change would significantly affect rice yields, and alternative crops may be more suitable choices in the face of climate change challenges.

Impacts of biogenic emissions from urban landscapes on summer ozone an secondary organic aerosol formation in megacities

Yang Gao et al.

Summary: The impact of biogenic emissions from urban landscapes on ozone and SOA has been largely ignored. Including urban isoprene in the model improves the simulations of isoprene concentrations and its diurnal cycle. Urban BVOC emissions play vital roles in modulating ozone formation and will become more important in the future. Biogenic-induced SOA accounts for 16% of total SOA in urban areas.

The Impact of Climate Change on Agricultural Insect Pests

Sandra Skendzic et al.

Summary: Climate change has significant impacts on agricultural insect pests, leading to various changes such as expanded geographic distribution, increased survival during overwintering, increased number of generations, altered interaction relationships, and more. These changes pose risks to crop economic losses and human food security, necessitating adaptive management strategies to address the challenges posed by the changing climate conditions.

Diurnal variation in BVOC emission and CO2 gas exchange from above- and belowground parts of two coniferous species and their responses to elevated O3

Hao Yu et al.

Summary: Increased tropospheric ozone (O-3) concentrations in boreal forests affect BVOC emissions and gas exchange of CO2. In spring, elevated O-3 decreased BVOC emissions and net photosynthesis rate (Pn), while in summer BVOC emissions increased but Pn decreased. Norway spruce and Scots pine showed slight differences in response to O-3.

Review on plant terpenoid emissions worldwide and in China

Weizhen Yang et al.

Summary: Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), especially terpenoids, play a significant role in ozone and secondary organic aerosol formation in the atmosphere, as well as global climate change. Understanding their emission mechanisms and measurements is crucial for evaluating their impact on atmospheric chemistry and climate change. Further research is needed to quantify the effects of environmental factors on terpenoid emissions, especially in China where accurate local measurements are essential for improving emission inventories.
