Summary: This article explores the role of Ghana's prayer camps in mental health care and addresses human rights concerns. It argues for the recognition of both state and nonstate actors in addressing mental illness and related human rights issues. The article emphasizes that simply having mental health legislation is insufficient if it does not acknowledge the religious dimensions of the individuals affected. The article recommends harmonizing religious perspectives with modern projects, such as human rights, to better support mental health initiatives.

Stigma Associated With Sickle Cell Disease in Kumasi, Ghana

Summary: The study investigated the perception of stigmatization for adults with SCD in Kumasi, Ghana through qualitative interviews. The majority of participants were female, Akan, and Christian. Three main themes were identified: feelings of social isolation, fear of disclosure, and bullying about physical appearance. The findings underscore the importance of developing effective strategies to combat stigma in order to provide better care for patients with SCD. Healthcare providers can implement stigma reduction interventions that may be applicable across Africa.
