Clinical analysis of adult MOG antibody-associated cortical encephalitis

Tianxin Yao et al.

Summary: This retrospective study examined the clinical and neuroimaging features of adult myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated cortical encephalitis, as well as treatment response and outcomes. The results showed that MOG antibody-associated cortical encephalitis is common in adults, with clinical symptoms including fever, headache, and seizures. Neuroimaging findings were associated with bilateral involvement of the cortex and corpus callosum. The majority of patients had favorable outcomes.

Summary: MOGAD is a chronic demyelinating disorder with optic neuritis being the most common clinical presentation. The majority of cases used IV steroids for acute treatment, and 83.3% of patients received chronic therapy during the disease course.

Summary: MOG-associated disease (MOGAD) is a rare inflammatory disorder of the central nervous system with various phenotypes, most commonly presenting as optic neuritis and ADEM. Diagnosis relies on detecting serum antibodies and MRI imaging, while treatment includes acute immunotherapy and immunosuppressive therapies.

Treatment of MOG-IgG associated disease in paediatric patients: A systematic review

Bruna Klein da Costa et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review of treatment for MOG-IgG associated disease in pediatric patients, finding that intravenous methylprednisolone was the most commonly reported acute treatment, while the commonly used long-term maintenance treatments may not necessarily reduce the relapse rate effectively. The study highlights the need for randomized controlled trials with standardized outcomes to confirm the safety and efficacy of current and new treatments.

Summary: MOGAD is a recently identified autoimmune disorder characterized by CNS demyelination, distinct from multiple sclerosis and NMOSD. Diagnosis involves testing for anti-MOG antibodies and treatment is based on standard protocols for related conditions, with further evidence needed for optimal management strategies.

Summary: FLAMCES is a rare phenotype of MOG-associated disease, characterized by clinical symptoms including seizures, headache, fever, and other cortical symptoms, with common MRI abnormalities located in the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes, treatment typically involves corticosteroids and anti-epileptic drugs, with clinical improvement observed in all patients but a relapse rate of one-third following recovery from cortical encephalitis.

Clinical Features of Coexisting Anti-NMDAR and MOG Antibody-Associated Encephalitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Jiayue Ding et al.

Summary: Coexisting anti-NMDAR and MOG antibody-associated encephalitis, although rare, can present with clinical features resembling NMDAR encephalitis, with a high incidence of relapse. Patients with both antibodies showed more mental behavior and involuntary movement symptoms, but less optic neuritis, compared to those with only one type of antibody, and had a higher likelihood of relapse and specific lesions on MRI.
