Modeling of the Potential Geographical Distribution of Three Fritillaria Species Under Climate Change

Ruiping Jiang et al.

Summary: Using MaxEnt model, this study predicted the potential distribution of Fritillaria cirrhosa, Fritillaria unibracteata, and Fritillaria przewalskii, and found high niche overlap among these species. Spatial distribution was identified as one of the factors contributing to speciation diversification. The information obtained in this study provides new insight for the conservation and management of these species in the future.

MaxEnt Modelling and Impact of Climate Change on Habitat Suitability Variations of Economically Important Chilgoza Pine (Pinus gerardiana Wall.) in South Asia

Arshad Mahmood Khan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential habitat suitability variations and factors influencing the distribution of Chilgoza pine. By analyzing multiple environmental variables, the study found that the predictive models for the presence of Chilgoza pine had high accuracy, and the potentially suitable habitat for this species had shrunk in Afghanistan, India, and China. Overall, the study suggested a continuous range contraction for Chilgoza pine and provided important insights for conservation and management plans in the region.

Common mistakes in ecological niche models

Neftali Sillero et al.

Summary: After teaching and reviewing manuscripts on ecological niche models, we found common mistakes such as treating presence-background modelling methods as pseudo-absence methods and confusing spatial autocorrelation with clustering of species records. Some errors arise from students' misunderstandings and are corrected before publication, while others can be found in published papers.

Potential geographical distribution and habitat shift of the genus Ammopiptanthus in China under current and future climate change based on the MaxEnt model

Zhongyu Du et al.

Summary: Ammopiptanthus is an endangered species in China, mainly found in the arid and semi-arid areas of northwest China. The study predicts the potential geographic habitat range of the genus under different greenhouse gas emission scenarios, showing changes in suitable habitat areas. It is recommended to establish nature reserves to protect their habitat.

Topographic Wetness Index calculation guidelines based on measured soil moisture and plant species composition

Martin Kopecky et al.

Summary: Different algorithms used in Topographic Wetness Index (TWI) calculation can impact the relationship between soil moisture and plant species composition. A study in temperate forests found that the method used to calculate TWI affects study conclusions.

Chinese caterpillar fungus (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) in China: Current distribution, trading, and futures under climate change and overexploitation

Yanqiang Wei et al.

Summary: Chinese caterpillar fungus, a precious traditional medicine mainly distributed on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, has faced a sharp decline in its wild population due to global warming and anthropogenic pressures. Future distribution of the fungus may be affected by climate change, while exports have drastically decreased in recent years.

Maxent modelling for habitat suitability of vulnerable tree Dalbergia latifolia in Nepal

Dipak Mahatara et al.

Summary: The study modeled the suitable habitat of Dalbergia latifolia in Nepal using a Maxent model, selecting 12 least correlated variables and 43 spatially representative presence locations for the prediction. Results showed a statistically significant model, with elevation and mean temperature of driest quarter being the most important variables affecting the growth of the rosewood species.
