Panel Products Made of Oil Palm Trunk: A Review of Potency, Environmental Aspect, and Comparison with Wood-Based Composites

Arif Nuryawan et al.

Summary: Oil palm plantations have rapidly expanded in Southeast Asia, becoming one of the most economically important plants. Oil palm trunks, considered significant waste products, have received less attention in research studies. This review summarizes the utilization of oil palm trunks, particularly the derived oil palm fibers, and their application as a substitute for wood panel products.

Structure, Dynamic-Mechanical and Acoustic Properties of Oil Palm Trunk Modified by Melamine Formaldehyde

Tetti Novalina Manik et al.

Summary: The performance of oil palm trunk wastes from Banjarbaru of South Kalimantan was enhanced through a two-step chemical modification process, which improved physical, mechanical, dynamic-mechanical, and acoustic properties. The combination of impregnation and formalization changed the structure and morphology of the woods, resulting in flatter and denser surfaces. Alkaline modification demonstrated the best dimensional stability, storage modulus, and damping factor in varied frequencies.
