Discovery of genomic loci associated with sleep apnea risk through multi-trait GWAS analysis with snoring

Adrian Campos et al.

Summary: Through genome-wide association study and multi-trait analysis, this study identified multiple genetic loci associated with sleep apnea risk, improving our understanding of the etiology of this condition and its relationship with other complex traits.

Genetic analysis of obstructive sleep apnoea discovers a strong association with cardiometabolic health

Satu Strausz et al.

Summary: This study identified five genetic loci associated with OSA risk and found high genetic correlations between OSA and comorbidities such as obesity. The findings support a causal link between obesity and OSA, indicating a joint genetic basis between OSA and related health conditions.

Association of Sleep Duration With Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Failure: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis

Jianqiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that genetically determined continuous sleep duration has a significant protective effect on heart failure and a suggestive inverse association with atrial fibrillation. Short sleep duration is positively associated with the risk of atrial fibrillation and heart failure, while long sleep duration does not show significant evidence of a protective effect on either condition. Larger intervention studies are needed to confirm the effectiveness of improving sleep in reducing the incidence of atrial fibrillation and heart failure.

Causal Effect of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Atrial Fibrillation: A Mendelian Randomization Study

Summary: Using Mendelian randomization, this study found that genetically predicted OSA has a causal effect on an increased risk of atrial fibrillation. The results were consistent across various sensitivity analyses.

Summary: Genetically predicted short sleep duration may be a potential causal risk factor for several cardiovascular diseases, while genetically predicted long sleep duration is unlikely to be a causal risk factor for most cardiovascular diseases.
