Regulatory Roles of Antimicrobial Peptides in the Nervous System: Implications for Neuronal Aging

Bradey A. R. Stuart et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) not only have antimicrobial activity but also play a role in regulating neuronal function. Aging affects the expression pattern of AMPs and may be related to neurodegenerative diseases. This review discusses the interaction between AMPs and the nervous system.

Anti-Neuroinflammatory Potential of Polyphenols by Inhibiting NF-kappa B to Halt Alzheimer's Disease

Md Sahab Uddin et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a chronic brain disorder with no exact remedies currently available. Neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in AD pathogenesis, with NF-kappa B showing promise as a candidate for inflammation-based therapy. Phytochemicals, particularly polyphenols, exhibit neuroprotective functions and may interfere with NF-kappa B signaling pathway to potentially combat AD.

The UDP-Glycosyltransferase Family in Drosophila melanogaster: Nomenclature Update, Gene Expression and Phylogenetic Analysis

Seung-Joon Ahn et al.

Summary: UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) are important conjugation enzymes found in all kingdoms of life, catalyzing sugar conjugation with small lipophilic compounds. The UGT gene family in Drosophila melanogaster includes 35 genes located on chromosomes 2 and 3, with high gene duplications on chromosome arm 3R. Analysis of UGT gene expression patterns in various tissues and after environmental treatments reveal differential expression, and extended searches of UGT orthologs from additional Drosophila species show a diversity in gene numbers and composition.
