Improving health and social systems for all children in LMICs: structural innovations to deliver high-quality services

Margaret E. Kruk et al.

Summary: Despite some progress in the past few decades, children and adolescents in many low-income and middle-income countries are still not reaching their health potential. In addition to health systems, social systems such as schools, communities, families, and digital platforms can be utilized to promote children's health. However, a targeted literature review found that the quality of services for children is generally substandard across both health and social systems, highlighting the need for structural reforms to improve service quality.

Summary: This systematic review reveals a gap in the published literature regarding the quality of routine LMIC health facility data for newborn indicators. The findings suggest that good quality data collection is attainable in high-burden LMIC settings, but further efforts are required to ensure consistently high data quality for neonatal indicators.

The effects of geographical accessibility to health facilities on antenatal care and delivery services utilization in Benin: a cross-sectional study

Mariam Tanou et al.

Summary: Geographical accessibility plays a critical role in the utilization of antenatal care and delivery services, especially in the northern part of Benin. Distance and travel time to health facilities have adverse effects on the likelihood of women receiving appropriate maternal healthcare. Women living within 5 km from the closest health center are more likely to use maternal healthcare compared to those living farther away.

Spatial patterns and inequalities in skilled birth attendance and caesarean delivery in sub-Saharan Africa

Firew Tekle Bobo et al.

Summary: This study examined the wealth-related inequalities in skilled birth attendance and caesarean deliveries in sub-Saharan Africa, and identified predictors such as number of antenatal care contacts, maternal education, household wealth status, and radio listening frequency.
