Impact of spatial and vertical distribution of air masses on PM10 chemical components at the Eastern Mediterranean - A seasonal approach

Konstantinos Dimitriou et al.

Summary: In this study, an upgraded three-dimensional CWT model was used to analyze the atmospheric transport and chemical composition of PM10 in different vertical layers. The results showed that Mediterranean airflows and long-range northeastern airflows had different contributions to the chemical composition, while Saharan dust intrusion was also an important factor.

Spatial origin analysis on atmospheric bulk deposition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Shanghai

Ying Liu et al.

Summary: The atmospheric deposition of PAHs onto soil in Shanghai and its surrounding areas poses a threat to terrestrial ecosystem. A total of 139 atmospheric bulk deposition samples were collected to locate the potential source areas using a multisite joint location method. The identified source areas were confirmed by PM and SO2 data from national ground monitoring stations.

Sources of PM2.5-bound water soluble ions at EMEP's Auchencorth Moss (UK) supersite revealed by 3D-Concentration Weighted Trajectory (CWT) model

Konstantinos Dimitriou et al.

Summary: The study utilized an upgraded 3D-CWT model to investigate potential long-range transport impacts by combining air mass trajectories and pollutant concentrations. Results revealed that transport of Secondary Inorganic Aerosols (SIA) from South and Southeast England affected levels of SO42-, NO3-, and NH4+ ions, while SIA intrusions from Northwest Europe were mainly detected in the second altitudinal layer.

A multi-year source apportionment of PM2.5 at multiple sites in the southern Po Valley (Italy)

Fabiana Scotto et al.

Summary: A source apportionment study was conducted on four sites in the Emilia-Romagna region of the southern Po Valley in Italy over a period of four years, revealing that traffic and biomass burning are the main sources of PM2.5 pollution, with agriculture making a relatively low contribution. The chemical profiles of factors were found to be very similar among all sites, indicating common main pollution sources, but some variations in source contributions were observed.
