Unveiling a Chemisorbed Crystallographically Heterogeneous Graphene/L10-FePd Interface with a Robust and Perpendicular Orbital Moment

Hiroshi Naganuma et al.

Summary: A crystallographically heterogeneous interface was fabricated by growing hexagonal graphene (Gr) on a tetragonal FePd epitaxial film. The interface exhibited a short interatomic distance and an interface perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (IPMA) through chemisorption-type van der Waals force and enhanced orbital magnetic moment. This interface structure has potential applications in high-density magnetic random-access memory (MRAM).

Two-dimensional materials prospects for non-volatile spintronic memories

Hyunsoo Yang et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of the current developments and challenges in regards to MRAM and outlines the opportunities that can arise by incorporating two-dimensional material technologies. The fundamental properties of atomically smooth interfaces, reduced material intermixing, crystal symmetries, and proximity effects are highlighted as key drivers for possible disruptive improvements in MRAM at advanced technology nodes.

Reduced magnetocrystalline anisotropy of CoFe2O4 thin films studied by angle-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism

Yosuke Nonaka et al.

Summary: The magnetic properties of CoFe2O4 are degraded when grown as a film on other materials, leading to the formation of magnetically dead layers at the interface. Thinner CoFe2O4 films in CoFe2O4/Al2O3 bilayers grown on Si(111) exhibit significantly smaller magnetocrystalline anisotropy values compared to bulk materials. This reduction in anisotropy is attributed to the decreased number of Co2+ ions at the O-h site, as reported in a previous study.
