Use of emerging technologies to enhance the treatment paradigm for spontaneous intraventricular hemorrhage

Austin B. Carpenter et al.

Summary: The presence of intraventricular hemorrhage in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage leads to a worse prognosis, with increased risks of complications. Advances in medical devices and protocols for treating IVH offer hope for improved clinical outcomes in the future.

Comparison of a bolt-connected external ventricular drain with a tunneled external ventricular drain - a narrative review and meta-analysis

Kanwaljeet Garg et al.

Summary: The bolt-connected EVD showed significantly better chances of optimal placement, lower risk of CSF infection, and reduced accidental disconnection compared to traditional tunneled EVD. However, there was no significant difference between the two techniques in terms of complications like multiple punctures, iatrogenic intracranial hemorrhage, and need for reoperation. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings due to the retrospective nature of the included studies.

Association of Intraventricular Fibrinolysis With Clinical Outcomes in Intracerebral Hemorrhage: An Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis

Joji B. Kuramatsu et al.

Summary: In patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), intraventricular fibrinolysis (IVF) treatment was associated with significantly improved functional outcomes at 6 months compared to standard of care. Early treatment within 48 hours had a better effect.

Evaluation of Volumetric Change of Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Patients Treated with Thrombolysis for Intraventricular Hemorrhage

Franziska Staub-Bartelt et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the volume changes of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in patients who received and did not receive intrathecal lysis therapy, finding that intraventricular administration of rtPA can significantly reduce hemorrhage volume with no adverse effects on ICH volume.

Factors Impacting Hydrocephalus Incidence in Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Retrospective Analysis

Jacob Gluski et al.

Summary: This study found that characteristics of intracerebral hemorrhage impact incidence of hydrocephalus, rates of long-term shunt dependency, and outcomes for patients. Specifically, cerebellar hemorrhage was associated with better discharge outcomes.
