Assessing the impact of industrial robots on manufacturing energy intensity in 38 countries

En-Ze Wang et al.

Summary: This research provides fresh insight into the determinants of energy intensity from the perspective of industrial robots. By analyzing a panel of data from 38 countries and 17 manufacturing sectors using the dynamic panel GMM estimate methodology, the study finds that industrial robots significantly improve manufacturing energy intensity. The improvement effect works through technology improvement and technological complement between industrial robots and labor. The study also highlights the heterogeneity nexus between industrial robots and manufacturing energy intensity, with a greater influence on non-renewable energy intensity and labor-intensive sectors. Additionally, the study suggests that Industry 4.0 can enhance the improvement effects of industrial robots on manufacturing energy intensity.

How does fiscal policy uncertainty affect corporate innovation investment? Evidence from China's new energy industry

Huwei Wen et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between fiscal policy uncertainty and corporate innovation investment in Chinese A-share listed companies in the new energy industry from 2007 to 2019. The findings suggest that fiscal policy uncertainty significantly reduces innovation investment, largely due to the decline in government support incentives. Product market competition, however, mitigates the adverse effects of fiscal policy uncertainty on innovation investment. Bank credit constraint serves as the mechanism through which fiscal policy uncertainty restrains innovation investment.

How does information and communication technology affect energy security? International evidence

Chien-Chiang Lee et al.

Summary: This research investigates the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on energy security using panel data from 66 countries between 1996 and 2019. The findings reveal a negative influence of ICT on energy demand and security, with financial development and technological progress serving as the main channels of impact. While human capital significantly affects energy security, it does not mediate the relationship between ICT and energy security. The study also observes an inverted U-shaped relationship between ICT and energy security with economic risk as a threshold variable, with ICT initially increasing energy security at lower levels of risk but weakening it beyond a certain level. Similarly, the impact of ICT on energy security fluctuates over time.

Exchange rate fluctuations and interest rate policy

Tie-Ying Liu et al.

Summary: This research uses the rolling-window method to study the non-linear relationship between interest rates and exchange rates for China and the United States. It also investigates uncovered interest rate parity (UIP) and the capital market theory to reconsider various economic connections between the two countries. The results suggest that the effect of the US interest rate adjustment on China/US exchange rate volatility is stronger than that of China's interest rate adjustment. Moreover, changes in the China/US exchange rate have a slightly stronger effect on the US interest rate than on China's interest rate. The findings reveal that the interest rate parity theory does not hold for the entire sample period but may hold in subperiods. These results provide a reference for the steady implementation of RMB internationalization.
