Composite action of rectangular concrete-filled steel tube columns under lateral shear force

Fa-xing Ding et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the composite action of RCFST columns under lateral shear forces through improved 3D finite element simulations, determining the critical shear span ratio and its variation range. The interactions between the encased steel tube and core concrete were studied, and calculation formulas for shear stiffness and capacity were proposed.

Testing and numerical modelling of circular CFDST cross-sections with stainless steel outer tubes in bending

Fangying Wang et al.

Summary: The structural performance of circular concrete-filled double skin tubular cross-sections with stainless steel outer tubes was studied through experiments and numerical modeling. The results indicated that the current design codes were overly conservative, but modifications were proposed to improve the consistency of resistance predictions.

Behaviours of circular CFDST with stainless steel external tube: Slender columns and beams

Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behaviors of circular CFDST slender columns and beams using experimental and numerical methods. Key parameters were found to have significant effects on load-carrying capacity. Additionally, factors such as load distribution and contact stress were analyzed, and the applicability of different design methods was evaluated.

Flexural behavior of ultra-high performance concrete filled high-strength steel tube

Jiayue Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the flexural performance of UHPCFST and UHPCFDST under bending load and found that the composite action between UHPC and high-strength steel tube was efficient, resulting in ductile failure of all specimens. Increasing steel ratio and yield strength led to a significant increase in ultimate flexural capacity of specimens. Circular inner tube UHPCFDST specimens demonstrated higher ultimate flexural capacity and ductility compared to UHPCFST specimens within a certain hollow section ratio range.

Experimental and numerical investigation on the flexural behavior of concrete-filled elliptical steel tube (CFET)

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flexural behavior of concrete-filled elliptical steel tubes (CFET) through experimental and numerical methods, revealing a ductile behavior in all specimens and discussing the composite action between the steel tube and core concrete. By establishing a finite element model with precise material constitutive models, the flexural mechanics of CFETs were comprehensively studied, including analysis of moment vs. curvature curves, stress and strain distribution, and composite action. Bond slip at the interface between the core concrete and steel tube was observed during loading, and design formulas were proposed to predict the ultimate moment and flexural stiffness of CFETs with satisfactory agreement between predicted and experimental/FE results.
