Optimised curved hoppers with maximum mass discharge rate - an experimental study

Xingjian Huang et al.

Summary: This research experiment confirms the improvement of granular flow in optimized curved hoppers compared to conventional hoppers, with more than 100% increase in Maximum Discharge Rate (MDR). The study demonstrates the flexibility of the optimized curved hoppers in maximizing MDR for different granular materials, regardless of their shape, density, and surface roughness.

Experimental study of granular flow transition near the outlet in a flat-bottomed silo

Yawen Xiao et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the transition of granular kinematic states near the outlet, revealing transition boundaries of velocity profile including velocity gradient transition and motion direction transition. Two methods were developed to determine the transition boundary of velocity profile.

Comparison on discharge characteristics of conical and hyperbolic hoppers based on finite element method

Changhao Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that the mass flow rate of hyperbolic hoppers is usually higher than that of conical hoppers, and avalanche and arching have an impact on the stability of discharge rate. When both are present simultaneously, the stability of discharge rate will be improved, and the optimal stability will occur at specific inclination angles.

The effect of particle shape on discharge and clogging

Ahmed Hafez et al.

Summary: The text discusses the discharge characteristics of different shaped particles in granular flow, finding that cubes and 3D crosses are prone to clogging, while spheres and 2D crosses favor flow.
