Insights into Mus musculus Population Structure across Eurasia Revealed by Whole-Genome Analysis

Kazumichi Fujiwara et al.

Summary: House mice are an important animal model in biomedical research, and their genetic background at the global level has been investigated in this study. The researchers found that wild house mice consist of three major genetic groups corresponding to three major subspecies, with a higher prevalence of admixture between subspecies in East Asia. In addition, incongruent patterns of genealogies were observed between mitochondrial and autosomal genomes in some samples. The estimated divergence time of the three subspecies was 187,000-226,000 years ago.

Ancient and modern stickleback genomes reveal the demographic constraints on adaptation

Melanie Kirch et al.

Summary: The study used paleogenomics to compare ancient and modern stickleback populations, finding that modern lake populations have incomplete adaptation to freshwater, likely due to founder effects, drift, and selection reducing ancestral variation in the founder populations.
