Quantitative Estimation of Protein in Sprouts of Vigna radiate (Mung Beans), Lens culinaris (Lentils), and Cicer arietinum (Chickpeas) by Kjeldahl and Lowry Methods

Nayab Batool Rizvi et al.

Summary: Protein scarcity is a major issue in developing countries, leading to long-lasting diseases and premature deaths. This study aimed to determine the protein contents of mung beans, lentils, and chickpeas using the Kjeldahl and Lowry methods. The results showed that all three legumes contain significant amounts of protein, and both methods proved to be reliable and sensitive for protein analysis.

Effect of viscous fiber supplementation on obesity indicators in individuals consuming calorie-restricted diets: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Elena Jovanovski et al.

Summary: Viscous fiber as part of a calorie-deficient diet significantly improves body weight and other markers of adiposity, making it suitable for overweight adults and those with risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The evidence certainty is graded as moderate for body weight, BMI, and body fat, and low for waist circumference.

GH/IGF-1 Abnormalities and Muscle Impairment: From Basic Research to Clinical Practice

Betina Biagetti et al.

Summary: Impairment of skeletal muscle function is a major contributing factor to the poor quality of life in acromegaly (ACRO) patients, but the underlying mechanisms and treatment options are still limited. Although GH and IGF-1 levels are associated with ACRO myopathies, the exact effects attributed to increased GH or IGF-1 levels remain unclear. Further research on the role of GH and IGF-1 in muscle anabolism is necessary to improve our understanding.

Interactions between Growth of Muscle and Stature: Mechanisms Involved and Their Nutritional Sensitivity to Dietary Protein: The Protein-Stat Revisited

D. Joe Millward

Summary: This article reviews the sensitivity of childhood growth to dietary protein within a Protein-Stat model of growth regulation. It discusses the coordination of muscle and stature growth, endocrine mechanisms, cellular mechanisms, and protein turnover in relation to muscle and bone growth. Additionally, it explores the influence of dietary protein on muscle and stature growth in children.

Molecular and Biochemical Pathways of Catalpol in Alleviating Diabetes Mellitus and Its Complications

Subrat Kumar Bhattamisra et al.

Summary: Catalpol isolated from Rehmannia glutinosa shows potent antioxidant properties and has been investigated for its effects on diabetes mellitus and its complications. The molecular pathways involved include promoting IRS-1/PI3K/AKT/GLUT2 activity, suppressing PEPCK and G6Pase expression in the liver, inducing myogenesis in skeletal muscles, and exerting antioxidant effects in the pancreas and liver. Catalpol also demonstrates neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and osteoblast stimulating effects, as well as potential in preventing neurodegeneration in the retina.

Lipin-1, a Versatile Regulator of Lipid Homeostasis, Is a Potential Target for Fighting Cancer

Laura Brohee et al.

Summary: The rewiring of lipid metabolism in cancer cells is associated with their increased aggressiveness, making the targeting of lipid metabolism an appealing therapeutic strategy. Lipin-1, a central regulator of lipid homeostasis, has been highlighted for its potential role in cancer progression, both in cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment. Inhibiting Lipin-1 may serve as an adjuvant therapy to enhance the effects of anti-cancer treatments.

High-Protein or Low Glycemic Index Diet-Which Energy-Restricted Diet Is Better to Start a Weight Loss Program?

Ewa Walilko et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of high-protein (HP) and low glycemic index (LGI) diets as starting energy-restricted diets. The results showed that a short-term HP diet appeared to be more beneficial than an LGI diet in terms of greater fat mass loss, preservation of muscle mass, and better effects on the lipid profile.
