Some mistakes and misinterpretations in the analysis of thermodynamic adsorption data

Stefano Salvestrini et al.

Summary: This work discusses recent results and statements in the field of scientific adsorption, focusing on the thermodynamic aspects of the process. It addresses issues such as dimensional inconsistency of fitted parameters, assumptions in isotherm models, inaccuracies in calculating Delta H degrees and Delta S degrees, and the interchangeability of Delta G and Delta G degrees. The paper also proposes a graphical method for assessing data reliability and the applicability of the van't Hoff equation.

Preparation of ammonium-modified cassava waste-derived biochar and its evaluation for synergistic adsorption of ternary antibiotics from aqueous solution

Jiwei Luo et al.

Summary: The NH4+-modified biochar showed higher sorption affinity for norfloxacin (NOR) and sulfamerazine (SMR) compared to the raw biochar, while the raw biochar exhibited higher sorption affinity for oxytetracycline (OTC). OTC had the highest sorption to both biochars, followed by NOR and SMR. Additionally, electrostatic interactions among the ionic antibiotics in the multicomponent solution increased NOR and SMR sorption to both biochars.

Stimulation of pyrolytic carbon materials as electron shuttles on the anaerobic transformation of recalcitrant organic pollutants: A review

Lu Zhou et al.

Summary: Pyrolytic carbon materials (PCMs) with various surface functionalities are used as environmentally friendly and cost-efficient adsorbents for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants. Recent studies have shown that PCMs can act as electron shuttles (ESs) to promote the anaerobic transformation of recalcitrant organic pollutants (ROPs). The mechanism of ESC formation and the stimulation mechanism for ROPs anaerobic transformation are still not fully understood.

Cell wall modification induced by an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus enhanced cadmium fixation in rice root

Meng Ying Gao et al.

Summary: Hydroponic experiments demonstrated that inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi significantly improved the growth of rice under cadmium stress, while reducing cadmium accumulation in plants. The levels of pectin and hemicellulose in root cell wall increased after fungal inoculation, along with higher lignin content. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms of cadmium fixation in root cell wall components.
