Clinical performance of the Roche Cobas 4800 HPV test for primary cervical cancer screening in a Chinese population

Stephanie S. Liu et al.

Summary: High-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) testing has become increasingly important in primary cervical cancer screening. This study validated the performance of Roche Cobas 4800 HPV test and compared it with Digene Hybrid Capture 2 (HC2) high-risk HPV DNA test. The overall agreement between Cobas and HC2 was 92.23%, with Cobas test demonstrating significantly higher specificity in identifying high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2+)/CIN3+ cases than HC2 test.

Fluorometric Paper-Based, Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification Devices for Quantitative Point-of-Care Detection of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

Ilada Choopara et al.

Summary: The research team developed a fluorometric paper-based LAMP technology for rapid MRSA detection. By optimizing reaction conditions, they created a paper-based MRSA diagnostic device that can accurately detect low levels of MRSA in a short amount of time, demonstrating high specificity and sensitivity in both patient and laboratory samples.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Facile and direct detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA in cells using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP)

Dat T. Vo et al.

Summary: Detection of HPV DNA using Loopmediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is a simple and robust method that can improve outcomes for patients with HPV-mediated cancers such as cervical and oropharyngeal cancer. Further development of LAMP for clinical use is warranted.

Estimates of the global burden of cervical cancer associated with HIV

Dominik Stelzle et al.

Summary: HIV infection significantly increases the risk of cervical cancer, especially in countries in southern Africa and eastern Africa. The burden of HIV-attributable cervical cancer is substantial, with a significant proportion of new cases diagnosed among women living with HIV.

A simple and rapid diagnostic method for 13 types of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) detection using CRISPR-Cas12a technology

Jiaojiao Gong et al.

Summary: The study proposed a non-genotyping method for detecting 13 types of high-risk HPV in a single reaction by combining isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) with CRISPR-Cas12a technology. The result could be achieved in 35 minutes with high sensitivity (500 copies per reaction), representing significant advances for the application of the RPA-Cas12a system and holding great potential to address key challenges in HPV diagnostics.
