Energy, exergy, and environmental assessments of a direct absorption parabolic trough collector based on nanofluid volume absorption approach

Amirarsalan Mashhadian et al.

Summary: The transient behavior of a direct absorption parabolic trough collector (DAPTC) and its energy and exergy efficiencies as well as the environmental effects were numerically simulated. The results showed that increasing the volumetric fractions of CuO nanoparticles and the diameter of the absorber tube can enhance the thermal and exergy efficiencies, while increasing the flow rate and inlet temperature of the heat transfer fluid can reduce the thermal efficiency.

A facile, green fabrication of aqueous nanofluids containing hydrophilic functionalized carbon nanotubes toward improving heat transfer in a closed horizontal flow passage

Naveed Akram et al.

Summary: In this study, a one-pot, covalent, and green functionalization technique was developed for the synthesis of highly stable multiwalled carbon nanotubes in aqueous media. The functionalized nanotubes exhibited improved thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity. Experimental tests conducted in a heated horizontal tube demonstrated a significant enhancement in convective heat transfer coefficient with only minor growth in relative pumping power. The results suggest the potential use of the synthesized nanofluids as alternative working fluids in heat transfer systems.

Application of novel framework based on ensemble boosted regression trees and Gaussian process regression in modelling thermal performance of small-scale Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) using hybrid nanofluid

Zafar Said et al.

Summary: This work examined the thermal performance of a small-scale solar organic Rankine cycle system and successfully predicted the energy efficiency of the solar collector and the energy-exergy efficiency of the ORC system using machine learning algorithms. The experimental results showed significant improvements in thermal and exergy efficiency under specific flow rates and concentrations. The GPR-based models performed exceptionally well, outperforming the BRT-based model in terms of prediction accuracy.

Energy, exergy and economic analysis of liquid flat-plate solar collector using green covalent functionalized graphene nanoplatelets

L. Harish Kumar et al.

Summary: The study showed that using GGNP nanofluids can improve the energy and exergetic efficiency of Liquid flat-plate solar collectors (LFPSC). Thermal efficiency increases with higher flow rates and heat flux intensities, but decreases with higher inlet temperatures. Economically, the use of 0.1% GGNP nanofluid in LFPSC can reduce the collector area size by up to 26.41% and the payback period by 5.615% compared to using water.

Naveed Akram et al.

Summary: In this study, water-based nanofluids were synthesized using covalently functionalized carbon nanoplatelets and non-covalently functionalized metal oxides nanoparticles. The stability and improved thermal properties of these nanofluids were experimentally verified and matched with theoretical models. The addition of nanomaterials significantly enhanced thermal conductivity, density, and specific heat capacity of the nanofluids, demonstrating their potential for improving the thermal performance of flat-plate solar collectors.
