N7-methylguanosine tRNA modification promotes esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tumorigenesis via the RPTOR/ULK1/autophagy axis

Hui Han et al.

Summary: This study reveals the oncogenic function of mis-regulated tRNA modification in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and suggests that targeting METTL1 and its downstream signaling could be a promising therapeutic strategy for ESCC treatment.

Prognostic role of METTL1 in glioma

Lun Li et al.

Summary: This study revealed that high expression of METTL1 in glioma is significantly associated with poor prognosis and may serve as an independent risk factor. Additionally, elevated METTL1 expression promotes glioma cell proliferation and is potentially involved in regulating the MAPK signaling pathway. These findings suggest that METTL1 could be a valuable biomarker for glioma and merit further exploration for clinical utility.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

METTL1-m7G-EGFR/EFEMP1 axis promotes the bladder cancer development

Xiaoling Ying et al.

Summary: The study reveals that METTL1 is highly expressed in bladder cancer (BC) and correlates with poor patient prognosis. Silencing METTL1 inhibits proliferation, migration, and invasion of BC cells by altering the expression of certain target genes, such as EGFR/EFEMP1, through m(7)G tRNA modification. Forced expression of EGFR/EFEMP1 partially rescues the effects of METTL1 deletion on BC cells, highlighting the potential therapeutic targets in BC treatment.

Cisplatin nanoparticles possess stronger anti-tumor synergy with PD1/PD-L1 inhibitors than the parental drug

Na Shen et al.

Summary: PD1/PD-L1 inhibitors play a significant role in cancer treatment, but the response rate of most cancers is limited. By using cisplatin nanoparticles, the sustained increase in tumor PD-L1 levels can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of PD1/PD-L1 inhibitors.
